USA Baseball

We recently received some photos of our Tulane representatives donning the red, white and blue of USA Baseball this summer. Check ‘em out (click to enlarge the photo):

We are also pleased to report that the team won the World Baseball Challenge, thanks in part to Tulane’s Nick Pepitone. Pepitone, who will be entering his junior year, finished the summer season without issuing any runs. He native of Katy, Texas, made eight appearances out of the bullpen for Team USA, while tossing 14.2 innings of scoreless baseball and only relinquishing two hits while striking out five, holding opposing batters to a .045 average. The native of Katy, Texas, will be entering his junior year for Tulane in the spring of 2010.

Summer Ball

Jeremy Schaffer, Rob Segedin and Nick Pepitone are switching up their summer routines this season. While lots of Green Wave ball players play summer ball, the guys can usually be found playing in the Cape, Vienna and other premier summer leagues. But this year, the trio is trading in their sluggerbird jerseys for the stars and stripes, as they represent USA Baseball.

The guys opened up against Canada last night and I’m pleased to report that the USA won, 12-4. Seggie hit a triple and Pep threw 2 innings and struck out a pair. Technically Seggie and Schaf are alternates on the team but due to some injuries, they both got called into action last night. Not sure what the extent of the injuries is, but it’s nice to see a couple of Tulane bats in the lineup!

Sounds of the Game

So maybe we can’t mic up our guys during the game, but they did have some things to say after the 7-3 win over UCF!
Take a listen to head coach Rick Jones, along with winning pitcher Conrad Flynn and Josh Prince (who went 5-5 with 5 stolen bases–yea, it’s a record). Just for good measure, we also chatted with Prince’s roommate on the road, Nick Pepitone, who also happened to get his 9th save today with the win.
